SERVICE

science mentoring for a richer tomorrow

(SMART)

SMART is one of six service-learning projects run through the Bonner Leadership Program at the University of Houston. Being involved in Bonner reminds me each and every day that making a difference in my local community should always be my priority.

As an executive member on the SMART project

  • I help lead mentors in service at a local elementary school

  • I work with fifth grade students in science

  • I lead the Data Team in gathering test scores and qualitative assessments to determine the efficacy of our program.

Serving as a Bonner Leader has helped me develop as a student, as a leader, and as an informed advocate for community engagement.

writing to inspire successful education

(WISE)

WISE is another one of the six service-learning projects run through the Bonner Leadership Program at the University of Houston.

The WISE program focuses on offering mentorship and tutoring in writing for seventh graders. This project was created to address the achievement gap and look to prepare students for the Writing STAAR exam. A significant portion of the writing feedback process is done online with mentors creating individualized videos that students can watch in the classroom.

As a mentor and Family Head

  • I oversee a group of five mentor and led biweekly meetings

  • I work with seventh grade students through digital writing tutoring and mentoring

houston hospice patient care volunteer

As a patient care volunteer, I sit with both patients and families in the inpatient care unit. I offer emotional support as well as socialization for the families.

Being a hospice volunteer has allowed me to see a different side of medicine. The palliative care physicians are focused on compassionate end-of-life care and ensuring that dignity is maintained for patients. Volunteering with Houston Hospice opened my eyes to the transformation at the end of life. As I began to sit with terminal patients, I realized how important it can be to provide comfort and emotional support.

LEADERSHIP

nsm ambassador

advancement ambassador

The Advancement Ambassadors is a student leadership organization run by the Division of Advancement at the University of Houston. Joining Advancement Ambassadors has allowed me to meet students from all disciplines and to interact with donors.

As a recipient of the Tier One Scholarship, I know firsthand how important patronage is and can be. Representing the student body to donors at events like the Houston Reception and at the President's Redzone VIP Lounge is a privilege and an honor.

See my ambassador profile here.

NSM ambassador

As an NSM Ambassador, I have the privilege of recruiting new students and showing them all that this university has to offer. I represent the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics at events as well as facilitate conversations with prospective students. I also lead college tours and help organize yearly events like NSMeet for admitted students.

I have grown my leadership, interpersonal communication, and public speaking skills as an Ambassador.
